IDEA's Land and Home Project

The International Drama/Theatre and Education Association announces a new international arts initiative, the “Land and Home” project. The “Land and Home” project is open to all members of IDEA. The project’s focus is on the changing relationship between human beings and the land, their dwelling place. What are the issues and challenges we all face as we move into the twenty first century? To foster regional and international arts collaboration between a variety of populations and groups on this central theme, experienced artists, teachers, directors, film makers, choreographers, poets, musicians, and environmentalists who are interested in this topic are invited to develop opportunities for communities of people within their respective countries to express their hopes and concerns for the use of the land as it is manifested in their localities. The goal is to provide a means of expression to communities whose voices may not be heard through the global media and who may not usually express themselves through artistic means.

UNESCO's Road Map for Arts Education - ACTION NEEDED!

UNESCO has been busy analyzing and ranking the areas of their work by priority, with those areas that receive the lowest ranking being marked for elimination. The Creativity programme, within which arts education falls, was ranked at the very bottom of UNESCO's 48 priority areas and is at risk of elimination. If this happens, UNESCO's invaluable work in this area, including the Road Map for Arts Education, the World Conferences for Arts Education, the International Arts Education week, and all the other projects related to both arts education and creativity in the broadest sense, will be terminated and will no longer receive support

CODE Conference, 2013 - What a Weekend!

The curtain went down on the 2013 CODE Conference after an incredible three days of drama, dance, education, and meeting up with great friends old and new. From October 18-20, the Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville, Ontario became a hub for elementary and secondary educators, artists, pre-service teachers, professors and supporters of these two brilliant art forms. With a vast array of workshops to choose from, delegates and presenters alike got the opportunity to learn and share ideas, philosophies, techniques and activities to use in their classrooms to continue spreading arts education to our students. On this note, a HUGE thank-you to every workshop presenter, keynote speaker, delegate and volunteer who made this conference a tremendous success. While the workshops were fabulous, the very presence of all of these creative minds in one building was an inspiring experience. With the passion and dedication that the artists and educators of this province possess, drama and dance education is going to continue to grow and play remarkably important roles in the lives of students and grown-ups alike. Again, thank-you to everyone involved in this year's conference! In 2014, the CODE Conference will be travelling to Ottawa, and we hope to see everybody back for another drama and dance filled weekend. Tell as many people as you can and let's continue spreading the power of drama and dance!
