An Important Announcement for all ETFO Members

If you are an ETFO member and want to have your federation support and advocate on behalf of Drama and Dance Education and the Arts, please consider attending the Annual Meeting of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario August 13th to 16th, 2012 in Toronto.
Dear Arts Education supporter,

If you are an ETFO member and want to have your federation support and advocate on behalf of Drama and Dance Education and the Arts, please consider attending the Annual Meeting of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario August 13th to 16th, 2012 in Toronto.

Last year the ETFO Arts Committee introduced two motions that were defeated on the floor of the 2011 Annual Meeting by a slim margin. One motion dealt with ETFO’s  Policy Statement regarding Arts and Culture in elementary schools and the other motion was in regards to ongoing funding for professional development for teachers.  These motions will be re-introduced this coming summer with modifications.

It is important that there be ETFO members on the floor of the Annual Meeting who are passionate about Music Education and the Arts who would speak in favour of these motions on the floor, in order to get the general membership’s support for these and/or Arts motions to pass.

How do I become a delegate?

This varies from local to local. Speak to your ETFO President for details of how you can get involved. In several boards a call is put out to the membership through stewards asking for volunteers (January) to attend the Annual Meeting as delegates. A list of volunteers is presented at local annual meetings held generally in February. This list is voted upon by the membership.

Can I speak to to a motion as a member without being a delegate?

You can attend the Annual Meeting as an ETFO member, but you cannot speak to a motion unless you are a delegate.

When and where is the ETFO Annual Meeting?

August 13th to 16th, 2012
Westin Harbour Castle Hotel, Toronto Ontario

Please note that expenses are covered by ETFO provincial for you to attend, including child care, transportation, meals and accommodations.

If you have any questions, please contact your local ETFO (Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario) President or Kevin Merkley (kevin_merkley@yahoo.com), ETFO Arts Committee Chair.
