tableau cross-over / tableau croisé
A convention in which groups of students form tableaux, after which each student exchanges his or her original tableau position for the position of a partner in the other group’s tableau. The convention is used to help students contrast two different but important moments or ideas in a drama (e.g., the effects of a sandstorm on a village years ago before there were trees versus the effects of a sandstorm on the village today). Each tableau should depict a powerful image (e.g., the worst moment during or after the storm).
