In a thrilling day of keynote panel talks, workshops, performances and networking, educators new to dance and drama will get the opportunity to develop tools that they can bring back to their students. As we get the chance to work with and learn from some of the GTA’s most exciting artists and educators, CODE in the 6ix will leave you inspired, motivated and wanting to learn more.

Morning Panel Talk with Dr. Barry Freeman, artists Bilal Baig and Mahlikah Aweri, Dr. Seika Boye, Devon Healey, and CODE President Kim Snider

Drama 101 - Larry Swartz

This practical workshop will demonstrate strategies for building community, encouraging communication and collaboration and engaging learners through interactive experiences. Games, storytelling, interviewing in role and writing in role will be highlighted in this session. Recent examples of children’s literature will be featured.  Handout provided.

Rebel Agent - Jenn Mavity and Brooke Charlebois

The year is 2025 and children all over Toronto have been disappearing. A video surfaces of a "Rebel Agent", a key figure in the movement causing the children to disappear. He addresses the adults directly, urging them to consider the impact their actions are having on the environment and inciting more children to join the movement. As environmental destruction looms, the missing children band together in secret to try and come up with solutions with or without the help of the adults in their lives.

Using the “Rebel Agent” video as a stimulus, participants will explore practical drama and dance strategies that can be used to propel the action of the story forward. We will discuss the importance of working both in and out of role, how movement can be used to communicate and how to assess the creative process when you are also a part of it.
