Actions/Reactions Logo

Join members of CODE at the University of Ottawa for a day of exploring Drama and Dance. The day will start with an introduction and exercise by former CODE President, Michael Wilson, then move into workshops by Matthew Sheahan (Past President), Michelle Gram Giessen (North East Regional Coordinator), and Giselle Paquette (former Eastern Regional Coordinator).

The event is FREE for CODE members and includes four workshops. Snacks will be provided at the beginning, but lunch is on your own.

Where? University of Ottawa Education Resource Centre (Lamoureux Hall (LMX), room 203
145 Jean-Jacques-Lussier Private)

Workshops will include:

Opening activities - Michael Wilson

To begin the day, we will “play” through interactive activities that build community, foster creativity and prepare our minds and bodies to be present at the workshops.

Improv for Human Development - Matthew Sheahan

The focus of this workshop will be on using improv strategies and techniques to support opportunities for developing critical thinking, problem solving, listening and collaborative skills without formal performance in the Drama classroom.

Exploring Activism Through Story Drama - Michelle Gram Giessen

This interactive workshop explores how The Weedflower by Elizabeth Davaze can be used as a catalyst for Story Drama. Participants engage in movement, tableau, role-play, and in-role discussion to examine themes of belonging, power, fairness, and collective decision-making.

Words that Move - Giselle Paquette

This workshop is aimed at all teachers from elementary to high school. Using words as stimulus participants will be guided through movement sequences referencing the elements of dance: BEST: Body, Energy, Space and Time. This practice may be used as a dance lesson or integrated with any subjects or lesson.
