CODE, in association with Ontario Music Educators’ Association (OMEA) and the Ontario Art Education Association (OAEA), have developed a series of five lessons per panel per subject to support new-to-the-arts teachers. ArtFusion is a collaboration between Ontario’s three arts subject associations aimed at bridging gaps for non-specialists to ensure high-quality arts education is available to every student.
Writing teams curated a series of 5 lessons from existing CODE material and added their own expertise to support teachers in launching the school year with a strong foundation. Lessons focus on establishing anti-oppressive and trauma-informed classroom spaces, providing guidance in relevant and effective classroom management (e.g., routines and procedures) while introducing some foundational concepts in the art for that panel. These lessons include guidance for diagnostic and other assessments and make recommendations for where to go next.
We're already hearing positive feedback from the community about these resources and we hope they'll meet a need among non-specialist teachers while offering fresh ideas for those that feel confident in their practice!
