Reconciling the Future - Justice as Our Path Forward

Past President, Matthew Sheahan, working with A Path Forward Indigenous museum in Picton, ON, and senior students from Prince Edward Collegiate Institute (PECI), created a Site Specific Theatre project where predominantly non-Indigenous students created and devised drama in consultation with the art, free from appropriation of voice and culture.

This resource captures what was completed over a six week period, and works through the process to generate, create, revise and polish work that was then presented to elementary students and community stakeholders.  The days of performance consisted of audiences perusing and viewing the art work, watching the performance, then participating in a facilitated question and answer period to discuss the art, choices, process and performance.

This project is an example of how this work can be done in a good way (utilizing Indigenous art or material to create free from appropriation), and is meant as a catalyst and provocation to create in other classrooms and areas, NOT as a step-by-step guide.
