Would You Say the Name of this Play?*nggrfg Workshop
This season at YPT, we have been exploring the connection between power and change. Would You Say the Name of this Play?*nggrfg examines "The Power of Change" in telling the story of Buddy, a boy growing up both black and gay in Canada, and his experiences of marginalization and oppression.
This practical drama workshop with Jonothan Neelands will explore John Steinbeck's iconic novel The Grapes of Wrath and its contemporary resonances for the troubled world that young people are experiencing.
Using material from the novel and the film and play versions as well as other historical and contemporary materials the workshop offers a model of how teaching literature of the past through drama can connect us powerfully with our world today. The workshop started life as a pre-show and post-show workshop for the current Stratford Festival production and is still evolving as a socio-historical theatrical journey into the lives, experiences and art of those living on the edge then and now.
