Physical game that acts as a great brain break or transition-manager. Possible to use for any size group.

Linear Continuum

Invite students to line up according to height, birthdate, number of letters in their first name, favourite colour in the rainbow, number of siblings, etc. Form groups based on their placement in the line (e.g., Jan-March are working together).

Number Off

Standing in a big cirlce, students number off based on your instructions. Encourage students to hold up their fingers to remember their number. "All 1s raise your hand - when I say go, 1s will meet ..." etc.

We Go Together

Choose pairs or groups of words (e.g., salt & pepper; PB & J; earth, wind, fire, & water; heart, veins, arteries, lungs; drummer, guitarist, singer, tambourine player). Call sections of the class each of the words, and invite students to find the other words in their group (e.g., "heart" will look for "lungs", "veins", and "arteries" to complete their group). Great for jigsaw where students may move back and forth between large group work and work in small groups or pairs. Word groupings could be linked to curriculum. When appropriate, encourage students to create a gesture for their word and to find their group members non-verbally.
