Many of these text phrases were created because of the restrictions of T9 keypads on cell phones in the 1990s and 2000s. Some have endured but many may be out of use, but could still be fun for students to explore.
Electronic communication has evolved to include the use of emojis in culturally specific ways.
New vernaculars are developed to encode communication among youth which may be more relevant to explore.
