Through role play, students will experience the patterns of the distribution of wealth and privilege and examine the inequities and injustices that this economic structure produces. While in role, students will explore the challenges that cultural/political leaders face in trying to distribute wealth, as well as what they as citizens can do to work toward creating a more just economic system. Created in 2010 for 2009 Ontario Curriculum Support.

Abstract: 
Students will learn the difference between wants and needs and the importance of setting priorities in terms of how money is spent. In groups, students will be given $100 to “spend” and will have to account for exactly how it is spent. Students will reflect on their choices and deal with unexpected life circumstances that will be thrown their way, which will affect their budgeting decisions. Created in 2010 for 2009 Ontario Curriculum Support.

Students will explore the topic of migration and the related theme of departures, with a focus on the push and pull factors that are at play when people are faced with these critical life decisions. The unit invites students to learn about the journey of immigrants during the Irish Famine and to examine a range of perspectives and points of view that prevailed at that time. Created in 2010 for 2009 Ontario Curriculum Support. / Les élèves exploreront le thème de la migration et le thème connexe des départs, en mettant l'accent sur les facteurs de répulsion et d’attraction qui entrent en jeu lorsque les gens sont confrontés à ces décisions cruciales de la vie. Le module invite les élèves à découvrir le voyage des immigrants pendant la famine irlandaise et à examiner un éventail de perspectives et de points de vue qui prévalaient à l'époque.
