Station 1 - AB (Contrasting)
What is it?
This is a two-part dance. The first section (A) has a specific movement quality, style, or emotion. The second section (B) is different — contrasting in energy, shape, tempo, or space.
Challenge:
Create an 8-count “A” phrase with a clear quality, then follow it with an 8-count “B” phrase that is very different.
Station 2 - ABA
What is it?
This form begins with an A phrase, shifts to a contrasting B phrase, then returns to the A phrase again.
Challenge:
Create an 8-count A phrase, a contrasting 8-count B phrase, and then repeat your original A phrase to end.
Station 3 - Canon (ripple)
What is it?
A choreographic structure where dancers do the same movement, starting one after the other, like a wave or ripple.
Challenge:
Create a 4–8 count phrase. Decide your canon timing (where the next dancer starts) and perform it as a group in canon.
Station 4 - Call and Response (Dance Conversation)
What is it?
One dancer or group performs a movement (call), and another dancer or group responds with a different movement (response), like a conversation.
Challenge:
Create a 4–8 count “call” movement, then pass the stage to your partner/group who responds with a “response.” Try at least two rounds.
Station 5 - Retrograde (Rewind)
What is it?
Performing a sequence of movement backward, like playing a video in reverse.
Challenge:
Create a short phrase (6–8 counts). Then reverse the movements step by step and perform the retrograde version.
Station 6 - Rondo (Keep coming back to A)
What is it?
A structure where the main movement ("A") keeps returning between new sections (e.g., ABACADA).
Challenge:
Create a 4-count “A” phrase, then a new 4-count “B” phrase. Return to A, then create a new “C.” Put it all together as ABAC.
